YEAR1: WEEK2: D1: THE HISTORY & AESTHETICS OF CINEMA (1895-1950)

Class was downtown at the Goldcorp. building in Vancouver. Located on the 3rd floor. It was a huge auditorium; we watched a series of short films. Movies back in the day were so primitive.

We talked about how it takes more than one person to make a movie and how other mediums like photography are used, after all a movie is a series of images.

We touched base on a number of topics, Thomas Edison a man who had many people work for him and when the end product came about he stuck his name on it. His name is mentionable, however he was not cutting edge in the world of film.

Early cinema had many limitations such as: there was no story being told due to the fact there was no audio it was added in after, one angle shots which was usually speed up/slowed down, one take single camera set up, mostly on set (no such thing as on location, limited by technology or lack there of). The history is only about 100 years so its not that long in comparison to say Greek mythology/history.

I enjoyed the class it was laid back. Tomorrow we have tutorial @ Harbor Center until then.
