Animals that have appeared to me & the meaning behind them.

I am a strong believer in animal totems. I have mine nine to be precise. Lately I have been seeing a few different animals. I have a book called Animal Speak & Medicine Cards; I have deciphered the meaning to the animals and what they represent.

Here are the animals that I have seen in the last few days: Rabbit, Horse, Dragonfly and Hawk.

RABBIT:

Rabbit is the Fear Caller. He goes out and shouts, “Eagle, I am so afraid of you.” If Eagle doesn’t hear him, Rabbit calls louder, “Eagle, stay away from me!” Eagle, now hearing Rabbit, comes and eats him. Rabbit calls bobcats, wolves, coyotes, and even snakes until they come.

As this story shows, Rabbit medicine people are so afraid of tragedy, illness, disaster, and “being taken,” that they call those very fears to them to teach them lessons. The keynote here is: what you resist will persist! What your fear most is what you become.

Here is the lesson. If you see Rabbit, stop talking about horrible things happening and get rid of “what if” in your vocabulary. This totem may signal a time of worry about the future or of trying to exercise your control over that which is not yet in form – the future. Stop Now! Write your fears down and be willing to feel them, and feel them running through your body into Mother Earth as a give-away.

HORSE:

“Stealing horses is stealing power” was a statement made frequently in historical Native America and a reference to the esteemed role which Horse played in the Native cultures.

Horse is physical power and unhealthy power. In shamanic practices throughout the world, Horse enables shamans to fly through the air and reach heaven.

Dreamwalker, the shaman, had been healed by the visit of the wild horses, and knew that his purpose in coming to the Arapaho was to share these gifts with them.

In understanding the power of Horse, you may see how to strive for a balanced medicine shield. True power is wisdom found in remembering your total journey. Wisdom comes from remembering pathways you have walked in another person’s moccasins. Compassion, caring, teaching, loving, and sharing your gifts, talents, and abilities are the gateways to power.

DRAGONFLY:

If dragonfly has shown it self to you, you may have forgotten to water your plants. On another level, you may need to give thanks to the foods you eat for sustaining your body. On a psychological level, it may be time to break down the illusions you held that restrict your actions or ideas.

Dragonfly medicine always beckons you to seek out parts of your habits which you need to change. Have you put on too much weight, or have you started to look like a scarecrow? Have you tended to the changes you have wanted to make in your life? If you feel the need for change, call on Dragonfly to guide you through the mists of illusion to the pathway of transformation. See how you can apply the art of illusion to your to your present question or situation, and remember that things are never completely as they seem.

HAWK:

Hawk medicine is a totem that is filled with responsibility, because Hawk people see the overall view. Hawk is not like Mouse, who sees everything through a magnifying glass. Hawk medicine people are aware of omens, messages from the spirit, and the color of the calling card you gave them three months ago. No detail slips by them unnoticed.

If Hawk has circled and landed in your life, you are to be aware of signals in your life – so notice and receive them. Hawk may be teaching you to grab an opportunity which is coming your way. On the other hand, Hawk may be bringing you the message that you should circle over your life, and examine it from a higher perspective. From this vantage point you may be able to discern the hazards which bar you from freedom of flight. Remember: Hawk has keen eye and a bold heart, for Hawk flies close to the light of Grandfather Sun.

These descriptions come from the book: Medicine Cards, By: Jamie Sams & David Carson.

I find these resonate very strongly with me as I have gone through all this. I hope that you have enjoyed this post till next time :)
